- November 11, 2008 USW Announces New Agreement at MeadWestvaco Mahrt, Alabama Paper Mill The United Steelworkers (USW) today announced the ratification of a new labor agreement at MeadWestvaco’s Mahrt, Alabama paper mill covering some 540 workers. The agreement, which will expire on October 31, 2013, provides an immediate $3,000 lump sum bonus payable to production and maintenance employees, plus an immediate general wage increase of 2% which will be retroactive to November 3, 2008.

- October 30, 2008 USW Local 8888 Ratifies New Contract With Northrop Grumman Newport News Shipyard In the wee hours today, members of United Steelworkers Local 8888 ratified a new four-year, four-month agreement with Northrop Grumman Newport News Shipyard. By a margin of 945 to 833, members said “yes” to a healthy contract in lean economic times.

Paulson, United Steelworkers (USW) President Leo W. Gerard raised questions about the prudence of Treasury investments of $125 billion of taxpayers’ money into nine financial institutions, including the firm which Paulson recently headed, Goldman Sachs.
